A Little about Head Lice
Head lice are common in school age kids. An estimated 6 million to 12 million infestations occur each
year in the U.S. among children 3 to 11 years of age, according to the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention.
Every year, school districts around the country report that 1 out of every 10 students has to deal with a head lice incident. Any school nurse will tell you that 3-12 year old students are famous for close contact and can spread these ectoparasites to others in the class room or the rest of your household. More recently, the practice among high school age students of taking selfies has lead to an increase in head lice among teenagers. Head lice are not known to transmit infectious agents from person-to-person. In some cases the saliva and feces from head lice on more sensitive victims can exacerbate the scalp irritation and increase the chance of a secondary infection from excessive scratching. A visit to the Minnesota Department of Health website may offer valuable insight on head lice treatment.
The most common myth about head lice is that a lack of personal hygiene is the cause. The truth is that lice actually like clean bodies and scalps. They want to eat and lay eggs. Dirt and grease just get in the way. One of the biggest causes of re-infestation is not getting the lice and their eggs out of your environment. Nits take 7-10 days to hatch. Lice can live up to 48 hours off your head. Under the right conditions, nits can survive for up to 10 days on your sofa, car seat and bedding. "Getting rid of head lice requires treating the individual, the family and the household." -The American Academy of Pediatrics
Many smart moms soon discover that the commonly available treatments containing Lindane or Pyrethrin are far more dangerous to their children than the head lice outbreak. These neurotoxic pesticides applied directly to the scalp of your child attack their developing brain and nervous system.* They need to be avoided, period!* NIX and RID are the most common over-the-counter lice treatments. Permethrin, the active ingredient in NIX, can cause burning of the scalp, body numbness, abdominal pain, and fever. RID`s active ingredients, Pyrethrin and Piperonyl Butoxide, can result in itching and swelling of the face or throat, dizziness, and trouble breathing. In recent years many lice strains have grown resistant to these chemicals, due to overuse.
The problem is that parents perceive lice treatments as “shampoos” rather than pesticides. They try the same treatments again and again, often switching from one product to another, doing great harm to their child.* Parents need to be enlightened to the nasty consequences of these neurotoxic treatments. They can cause significant side effects in young kids, the elderly, or anyone that weighs less than 100 lbs, especially when these treatments are used repeatedly in a short period of time.* Deborah Altschuler President of the National Pediculosis Association (NPA) stated, “In particular, pregnant or nursing women should never be exposed to any of the lice pesticides, even as a last resort."
HEAD LICE BUSTER combines the active ingredient of organic Texas cedarwood oil [an EPA minimum-risk pesticide historically known for its potent insect neutralizing capabilities and pheromone diffusion] with an inert 4A GRAS list Hydrated Silica carrier [typically used in skin cream formulations and personal care products]. Working in concert, these ingredients provide instant demise to lice and other non-beneficial insects. This unique compound, when combined with cedarwood oil, triggers the ultimate in insect penetration. The lice and nits are destroyed and released.* In contrast with the damaging effect chemical treatments have on hair follicles, the 4A and cosmetic grade inert carriers in HEAD LICE BUSTER have no negative effect on the hair’s original pre-treatment condition.*
HEAD LICE BUSTER does not aggressively attack the scalp or any skin areas that come in contact with it. Children using the product for head lice control enjoy a soothing sensation.* Unlike Pyrethrin and Lindane products, HEAD LICE BUSTER has a ZERO effect on your child’s developing brain and nervous system.* HEAD LICE BUSTER won’t cause vomiting, won’t compromise the immune system, won’t burn the scalp or destroy hair follicles such as chemical treatments are known to do.*
How does it work? Lice breathe through pores on their bodies. When lice are exposed to HEAD LICE BUSTER, the aroma of cedarwood oil triggers the louse’s danger response that results in the closure of its breathing pores. This in turn drops the insect’s organ temperature and causes instant death to the arthropod. The formula also dissolves the exoskeleton of the eggs and nymphs [larvae] eliminating the next cycle of pests.* And, it works to dissolve the glue [when left on long enough] that attaches the nit to the hair stem. Note: The term “nit” refers to either a louse egg or a louse nymph. With respect to eggs, this rather broad definition includes the following: 1.) Viable eggs that will eventually hatch, 2.) Remnants of already-hatched eggs, and 3.) Nonviable eggs (dead embryo) that will never hatch. Either way, you want them all gone!

A Little about Scabies Mites
Scabies is an itchy skin condition caused by a tiny burrowing mite called Sarcoptes scabiei. The presence of the mite leads to intense itching in the area of its burrows. The urge to scratch may be especially strong at night. Scabies is contagious and can spread quickly through close physical contact in a family, child care group, school class or nursing home. Because of the contagious nature of scabies, doctors often recommend treatment for entire families or contact groups to eliminate the mite. Take heart in that scabies is readily treated. Medications can be applied to your skin to kill the mites that cause scabies and their eggs, although you may still experience some itching for several weeks. For those who prefer a non-medicated, non-toxic solution, HEAD LICE BUSTER effectively kills the scabies mite and its eggs: The protocol for treating Scabies takes about a week. The aroma of cedar oil to the mite is like ammonia to a human. The mite shuts its breathing pores and suffocates to death. BUZZ! 4 bugs’ Head Lice Buster also soothes the skin tissue and dissolves the exoskeleton of the eggs so the eggs do not hatch. For more on scabies, see Supplemental Reading.
